SMS Notification for public services in Malta
The new ‘myAlerts’ service has also been launched recently. What was the main motivation behind this initiative and what services are set to be included in the system?

The myAlerts service aims to make it even easier for users to keep track of the developments that are of particular interest to them. Through myAlerts, users can subscribe to receive email and SMS notifications about various public services. The services currently enabled through the system include updates on children’s allowances, passport renewal reminders, the Valletta CVA, Gozo Channel, public procurement offerings, Enemalta planned power suspensions and scholarships offered by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The need for this type of notification system was driven by our belief that for government to provide an efficient – and ultimately a useful service – our services need to be ‘put out there’. Through myAlerts, we are now giving users the functionality to get updates on the public services of their choice even via email or SMS. To be able to deliver the best possible service, we need to ask our users what information is the most interesting, what is the most important and then, we can deliver tailor-made services through the notifications alerts.
The myAlerts initiative is not the only new development with e-government. An online survey to gauge customer satisfaction is also currently underway. How will these results be put to good use? …
